Social Safari Website Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 14, 2026 – gosocialsafari.com

The short version: we collect very little, we use it only to send you our newsletter and answer your emails, and we never sell it. Mr. Mojo wanted this section to be one sentence. Lady Marvelous wanted it to be complete. Here is both.

1. Who we are

This website, gosocialsafari.com (the “Site”), is operated by Social Safari Media, an imprint of Fersher Press LLC, 1401 21st Street, Suite R, Sacramento, CA 95811 (“Social Safari,” “we,” “us”). This policy explains what information we collect through the Site and how we handle it.

2. What we collect

  • Newsletter signups. When you subscribe through the signup box, you give your email address to Substack, which runs our newsletter. Substack shares your subscriber information with us so we can send you the newsletter.

  • Emails you send us. If you email us, including through the “Round up the herd” and “Send up a flare” links, we receive your name, email address, and whatever you choose to write.

  • Analytics and technical information. The Site uses Google Analytics, and our host may also record limited technical data. These tools collect information such as your browser type, device type, pages viewed, time on the Site, referring website, and approximate location based on your IP address. We use this only in aggregate to see how the Site is used, not to identify you.

We do not ask for payment information. Book purchases happen on retailer websites, not on this Site.

3. How we use it

  • To send the newsletter you signed up for.

  • To reply to inquiries about interviews, events, bulk orders, and anything else “safari.”

  • To understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the Site so we can improve it.

  • To comply with the law and protect our rights.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the Site and newsletter, each under its own privacy policy:

  • Substack (newsletter signups and delivery)

  • Carrd (website hosting)

  • Google (Google Analytics, for aggregate Site statistics)

  • Our email provider (receiving and answering your emails)

The Site also links to third-party sites, including book retailers (such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, and Kobo) and Books2Read, which shows you where to buy our books. When you click those links, you leave our Site, and that site’s own privacy policy applies. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights or the safety of others.Affiliate links. Some store links on the Site and in our newsletter, including links through Books2Read, are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. The retailer may use cookies or similar technology to credit the purchase to us, under its own privacy policy.

5. Cookies and Do Not Track

The Site uses cookies from Google Analytics to measure, in aggregate, how visitors use the Site. Visitors in Europe, the UK, and Switzerland are asked for consent before analytics cookies load (see section 11). Embedded services, such as the Substack signup box, may set their own cookies under their own policies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out browser add-on. To learn how Google uses this information, see How Google uses information from sites that use its services. Google Analytics, and the retailers behind affiliate links, may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites when you use the Site. Google Analytics, and the retailers behind affiliate links, may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites when you use the Site. Because there is no common industry standard for “Do Not Track” browser signals, the Site does not currently respond to them.

6. Your choices

  • Unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any newsletter email.

  • Ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing [email protected]. We will respond within a reasonable time.

7. California privacy rights

We are based in California. This section collects the California disclosures that apply to the Site.

  • California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA). This policy is our privacy policy under CalOPPA. It describes the categories of personal information we collect (section 2), the categories of third parties we share it with (section 4), how we handle cookies and respond to "Do Not Track" signals (section 5), how you can review and ask us to correct your information (section 6), and how we notify you of changes (section 16).

  • "Shine the Light" (Civil Code Section 1798.83). California residents may ask whether we disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not.

  • No sale of personal information. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, as described in section 4.

  • California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). The CCPA applies to businesses that meet thresholds set by law, such as annual revenue above a set amount. Social Safari Media does not currently meet those thresholds. Even so, we honor requests from California residents to know, access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about them, and we will not treat you differently for making one.

  • How to make a request. Email [email protected] with "California Privacy Request" in the subject line. We may ask for information to confirm your identity before we respond.

8. Children

The Site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the higher age set by local law, such as 16 in parts of Europe or 18 in India. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

9. Security and retention

We use reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, but no website or email system is completely secure. We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as the law requires.

10. International visitors

The Site is operated from the United States, and we welcome readers worldwide. Information we collect is processed and stored in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. Wherever you live, you may ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information by emailing [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days, or sooner where local law requires, and we will not treat you differently for using your rights. The sections below describe additional rights by region.

11. Europe, the UK, and Switzerland

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Social Safari Media, an imprint of Fersher Press LLC, is the controller of your personal information under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, and Swiss data protection law.

  • Legal bases. We send the newsletter and use analytics cookies only with your consent. We reply to your emails and keep the Site secure based on our legitimate interest in running the Site and responding to you. We keep some records because the law requires it.

  • Your rights. You may access, correct, or delete your personal information, restrict or object to our use of it, ask for a portable copy, and withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect earlier use.

  • Cookies. In these regions, Google Analytics cookies load only after you agree through our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time.

  • International transfers. Your information is transferred to the United States. Our service providers protect these transfers with recognized safeguards, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions, or Standard Contractual Clauses.

  • Complaints. You may complain to your local data protection authority. We hope you will contact us first so we can help.

12. Canada

We handle personal information in line with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). We collect it with your consent, only for the purposes in this policy, and you may withdraw consent or ask to access or correct it at any time. Our newsletter goes only to people who subscribe, and every issue includes an unsubscribe link, as Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires. You may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

13. Australia and New Zealand

Where Australia’s Privacy Act 1988 or New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020 applies, you may ask to access or correct your personal information. Your information is disclosed to our service providers in the United States, as described in section 4. You may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or to New Zealand’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

14. Japan

Under Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI), you may ask us to disclose, correct, stop using, or delete your personal information. Your information is transferred to the United States, which has no single national privacy law equivalent to Japan’s. Our service providers protect it under their own privacy and security programs.

15. India and other countries

If you are in India, we process your personal data with your consent under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. You may ask to access, correct, update, or erase it, withdraw your consent, and nominate someone to act for you. For grievances, email [email protected] with “Grievance” in the subject line. You may also complain to the Data Protection Board of India. If you live in another country with privacy laws, such as Brazil, South Africa, or South Korea, we will honor the rights those laws give you. Email us to use them.

16. Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will post the new version on this page with a new effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the newsletter.

You may:

  • Browse the Site and share links to it.

  • Quote brief passages in reviews, articles, and social media posts, with credit to the book or Site.

  • Download the press kit, back cover, and excerpt PDFs for personal reading, news coverage, reviews, and promotion of our books, without altering them.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

16. General

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce any part is not a waiver of it. These terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Site.
